Filter Press

A filter press is a commonly used solid-liquid separation equipment. It uses a special filtering medium to apply pressure to the material, allowing the liquid to dialyze out, thereby achieving solid-liquid separation.

Structural composition:

Frame: It is a basic component of the filter press, consisting of a thrust plate, a pressure plate, and girders. The thrust plate is connected to the support and fixed on the foundation. The pressure plate is used to press the filter plates and filter frames, with rollers on both sides that can roll on the girder tracks. The girders are used to support the filter plates, filter frames, and pressure plate.
Pressing mechanism: It can be divided into manual pressing, mechanical pressing, and hydraulic pressing. Manual pressing pushes the pressure plate through a screw-type mechanical jack; mechanical pressing is composed of a motor, a reducer, a gear pair, a screw rod, and a fixed nut; hydraulic pressing is composed of a hydraulic station, an oil cylinder, a piston, a piston rod, etc.
Filtering mechanism: It is composed of filter plates, filter frames, filter cloths, and squeezing diaphragms. Both sides of the filter plate are covered by filter cloth. Materials enter each filter chamber through the feed hole on the thrust plate. Solid particles are trapped in the filter chamber to form filter cakes, and the filtrate flows out from the liquid outlet hole below the filter plate.

Working principle:

When the filter press is in operation, the hydraulic cylinder presses all the filter plates tightly between the movable head plate and the fixed tail plate, forming closed filter chambers between adjacent filter plates. The material enters the filter press through the feeding hole of the fixed tail plate under a certain pressure, creating a pressure difference on both sides of the filter cloth. Solid particles are retained in the filter chambers by the filter cloth, forming filter cakes, while the filtrate passes through the filter cloth and is discharged through the drainage grooves on the filter plates. When the filtrate stops flowing out, the feeding is stopped. The filter cakes can then be dewatered by diaphragm squeezing or through the penetration of high-pressure compressed air. Finally, the filter plates are pulled apart by the hydraulic operating system to unload the filter cakes.

Classification:

Classified by installation form: they can be divided into horizontal filter presses and vertical filter presses.
Classified by filtrate discharge form: they can be divided into open-flow filter presses and closed-flow filter presses.
Classified by structural form: they can be divided into box-type filter presses and plate-and-frame filter presses.
Classified by filter cloth installation form: they can be divided into fixed filter cloth filter presses and movable filter cloth filter presses.
Classified by the presence or absence of a pressing mechanism: they can be divided into pressure filter presses and non-pressure filter presses.
Classified by pressing form: they can be divided into mechanically pressed filter presses and hydraulically pressed filter presses.

Application fields:

It is widely used in industries such as chemical engineering, pharmaceuticals, metallurgy, dyes, food, brewing, ceramics, and environmental protection for solid-liquid separation of various suspensions, such as wastewater treatment in chemical production, liquid medicine filtration in the pharmaceutical industry, and sludge dewatering in the environmental protection field.
