Biological Fermenter

A biological fermenter is a device used for the fermentation of microorganisms or cells, and it is widely applied in various fields such as bioengineering, pharmaceuticals, and food.

Structural composition:


Usually, a vertical circular tank with a diameter-to-height ratio of 1:2 to 1:3 is adopted. The inner surface is mirror-polished, and the outer surface is either mirror-polished or matte-treated. All transition sections of the inner wall adopt arc transitions, with no sanitary dead corners and easy cleaning. The tank body is equipped with a long strip sight glass for large-angle observation of the liquid level inside the tank, a 12V safety sight light, as well as interfaces for pH electrode, DO electrode, temperature electrode, etc. The tank cover is provided with a flame inoculation port and a standby feeding interface, among others. In addition, it is equipped with a top mechanical stirring device with digitally settable rotation speed. It comes standard with 2 layers of disc turbine-type stirring paddles and 1 layer of high-efficiency defoaming paddle, and there are also options such as flat-blade paddles and inclined-blade paddles.

 

Working principle:


For a common airlift bioreactor, high-speed air is ejected through an air nozzle, which reduces the average density of the liquid on the aerated side. A density difference is formed between the aerated side and the non-aerated side, thereby creating a circulation of the liquid inside the tank and achieving the mixing and mass transfer of materials.

Classification: According to the fermentation method, it can be divided into solid-state fermenters and liquid fermenters; according to the oxygen demand type, it can be divided into ventilated fermenters and anaerobic fermenters; according to the scale, it can be divided into seed tanks and large-scale production fermenters.
Control system: Including aeration control, which can perform deep aeration with air intake at the bottom and online detection of dissolved oxygen content; tank pressure control, with a pointer pressure gauge configured at the top exhaust port, which can manually or automatically adjust the tank pressure; acid-base control, which can online detect the pH value and automatically add acid or alkali through a peristaltic pump or automatic control valve; temperature control, which can online detect the temperature and automatically or manually adjust it using constant temperature water, cooling water, etc.; feeding control, which can add materials through a peristaltic pump or automatic control valve; defoaming control, which uses a conductive foam electrode to detect and automatically alarm or add defoaming agents continuously.

Application fields:

In the food industry, it is used for brewing beer, wine, soy sauce, etc., as well as producing dairy products such as yogurt and cheese. In the field of pharmaceutical manufacturing, it is an important equipment for producing antibiotics, vaccines, protein drugs, etc. In the environmental protection field, it can be used for biological sewage treatment, waste conversion, etc. In addition, it is also widely used in chemical industry, agriculture, animal husbandry and other fields for producing organic acids, amino acids, biological fertilizers, feed additives, etc.
